Garrett Waits It Out
Charles Garrett, the 5-foot-11, 175-pound safety/cornerback from Dorsey High School in Los Angeles, Calif., has helped lead his team to a 2-0 start with a 33-7 victory at Chatsworth on Sept. 11 and a 28-18 win at Hamilton on Sept. 18. Garrett had five tackles and one interception in those two wins. Next up for the Dons is Compton High School on Sept. 25. Garrett, ranked as Scout.com's No. 121 safety, now favors Washington State (still only offer) slightly over Washington, Arizona State and UCLA. "They've been recruiting me the most," Garrett said about Wazzu. "They've been on me hard and the coaches seem cool. I'm getting a real good vibe from them. They seem easy to talk to and it's like they're friends and not coaches." He says he'll definitely be taking an official visit to Pullman but hasn't set anything up yet. During the summer Garrett attended camps at Arizona, Washington and UCLA, but none have offered yet. "Washington is recruiting me as a cornerback, but they've only seen me play safety," he said. "They want to see me play corner before they make me an offer. "I really like the program they have and the area," Garrett said about the Huskies. "I also like the turnaround they are making. Beating USC was huge and it's just the beginning." Garrett says he attended the UCLA/Kansas State game on Sept. 19, but not as a guest of the Bruins. "I was just a fan," he said. "We went with a couple teammates. It was an alright game. "UCLA is recruiting me a little, but I haven't been hearing too much from them," he said. The same is true of Arizona State. "I'm not sure about them," he said. "They seemed to like me, but I haven't heard from them recently." He says the only two schools that have called him so far this month were Washington State and Idaho. "Oregon isn't recruiting me." "I'll wait it out until after the season," Garrett said. "I want to see who else offers and what happens. I don't want to commit early." Garrett plans on majoring in either communications or real estate. He reports a 3.3 core GPA and a 1230 SAT.
