Easterly Taking Visits
Recruiting is not a focus for Daniel Easterly right now. Easterly is on a Cass Tech squad which started out the year 2-3 and was shutout in consecutive weeks by rivals King and Southeastern. That was the wake up call the Technicians needed and they themselves shut out their next two opponents to bring their mark to 4-3. The 6'4, 185-lb Easterly has been a key in that turn around from his safety spot, especially during these last two games where Cass has outscored their opponents 68-0. Now his team has a chance to qualify for the playoffs with a win this week. "We don't know [who we play] yet," Easterly said, "but the game is on Thursday. When we win this game, we will be in states. We are turning our season around." As a result of this key stretch, Easterly has recruiting largely on the backburner. He does have an eye towards what he will do following the end of this season, namely take some visits. He has been committed to Illinois since this summer, but wants to see other schools. "They said I was okay," Easterly said of the Illini, "I was talking to Coach Gilmore. He said they want me to make sure Illinois was the place for me. I told them mainly that the academics was the main thing for me, but I know I want to go into computer engineering and Illinois is the number one computer engineering school in the country." The other schools Easterly is considering official visits to are Missouri, the Illini themselves, USC, Minnesota and Wisconsin. All of those schools have extended offers to him except for the Trojans. "I have been talking to them (USC) for a while," he reported, "but one coach told me they are not sure if they want to offer me because I am committed to Illinois." Easterly had previously taken an unofficial visit to Louisville as well.
