One of the top punters in the West, Carpinteria (Calif.) Jeremy Stein, is off to a strong start in 2009.
Several schools are interested in Stein, who also doubles as the Warriors’ linebacker.
“I camped at Northwestern, Cornell and Cal Poly and they're very interested,” said Stein. “Army, Navy and Air Force have called. Butler, Drake, Arkansas, Northern Arizona are interested. I'm wide open at the moment.”
Stein has had an impressive season as a punter, with 23 punts for 1,051 yards (46 yard average) with 10 inside the 20 and he’s added 48 tackles as well as seven catches for 70 yards and a touchdown.
“The main interest in me is as a punter,” said Stein. “As a punter, I'm helping my team win the battle for field position but our offense really struggles, so I punt a lot.”
Stein is staying patient, knowing that offers for specialists often take a little longer to come.
“Everyone says the largest percentage of scholarships are given to specialists in December and January so I'm confident something will happen,” said Stein.
Stein will be camping at the Nike Fall Kicking Camp, Kohl’s Winter Showcase and Sailer’s National Kicking Event.
Academically, he’s in solid shape, with a 4.0 GPA and a 1670 on the SAT, which he retook earlier this month.
Next up for the Warriors is a date with top-ranked Oaks Christian.
