The Scout.com West recruiting team hit the road last weekend to watch some of the region's best…
Irish Traditions Impressive
Dietrich Riley, the 6-foot-1, 195-pound four-star safety/running back from St. Francis High School in La Canada, Calif., has helped lead his team to a 6-1 record with over 500 yard rushing and 10 touchdowns. He also has five touchdowns receiving. "We're blowing a lot of teams out so I've only play a total of two full games," he said. Riley, ranked as the No. 7 safety in the country by Scout.com, still denies a leader and seems open-minded, but said he now favors Notre Dame, Tennessee, Florida and USC. All of his favorites have offered. Riley's already taken an official visit to Tennessee on Oct. 3 and Notre Dame on Oct. 17. He will be at Florida on Nov. 28 and USC in December. "My Notre Dame trip went really well," he said. "It was a good experience to be part of. I like the guys there and how kind all the people were. "It's also a very good academic school and I liked talking to the admissions people about being a student," Riley said. "I really wanted to know what the transition is like from high school to college and it seems like they really support you there. Plus, the Notre Dame degree is worth a lot." Although that was the weekend that the Irish lost to USC, Riley says he still had a great time at the game. "It was packed," he said. "There was like over 80,000 people and everyone was going crazy. "They really came out and competed hard," he said. "They give it their all every week." Riley admits he was also quite taken with all the rituals and tradition of Notre Dame football. "The pre-game walk gets you fired up," he said. "I love all the tradition they have. "I also have a good relationship with coach Charlie Weis and (defensive backs) coach Corwin Brown," he said. "They are all good people." Riley had no time for further questions. He reports a 2.5 core GPA, test unknown.
