A promising football prospect talks about the Tigers and his senior season…
Spencer Region names overall favorite
"We are still undefeated," said Spencer Region. "We are 9-0 now. We head to Austin this week. Hopefully we will finish the regular season 10-0. I believe we will play against Wenonah in the first round of the play-offs. "I feel like I have been doing good. I had a thigh bruise that has been bothering me, but I have kept playing. I went up against Wilson Love this past week. I feel I did well. I pancaked him seven times. He is a good athlete and real strong." Region traveled to Tuscaloosa for the Tide's victory against Tennessee. "I really enjoyed my visit to Alabama," he said. "The coaches treated me real well. The students went crazy when they saw us down on the field. It was real cool. It was a very exciting game. I am glad Alabama pulled it out. Terrence Cody is the man. "I talked to coach [Joe] Pendry while I was there. He was saying he is really interested in me. He thinks I am one of the elite linemen in the 2011 class. He said he wants me to send him film. He said he has been putting in a good word for me. He likes me a lot and said I am a hard worker. He said he wants those guys on the offensive line. "I grew up an Alabama fan. I love Alabama. I have always hoped one day I will get to wear the Crimson and White. It will hurt if I don't get to do that. Alabama is my overall favorite. I feel at home there. I love it down there. I have been going down there for so many years that I just feel comfortable." Region is eagerly looking for the first school to step up and extend an offer. "I still don't have any offers," he said. "Alabama and Auburn are showing a lot of interest in me. I am receiving mail from USC, Ole Miss, Penn State, Virginia, Georgia and Duke. I would say my favorites right now are Alabama, Auburn, USC, Penn State, Ole Miss and Georgia. Alabama is the leader." Region discussed the other schools on the list as well. Auburn: "Auburn is great. I love the campus down there. That would be the most likely place I would go if Alabama doesn't offer. I could see myself playing there. I get treated real well when I am down there." USC: "I haven't been out there. The tradition sticks out. They are winners. They don't get beat by many teams. Going to Cullman I see what it's like to win. All my top five schools I can go and win. I have worked too hard to go somewhere to lose." Penn State: "I love the fans. The white-out is crazy. Coach Paterno has been there a long time. They have a lot of tradition. Tradition is one thing I look for. They definitely have a lot of it." Ole Miss: "I have alumni in the family. My dad and his three brothers went there. The campus is real nice. The girls are really good looking. It's hard to find an ugly one. Coach Nutt is a great coach." Georgia: "Again they are winners. They are not having such a great year. I feel like the little things with the quarterback situation will get resolved, and they will be great. Coach Richt is a good coach and will bring them back. I can help contribute. They have a great campus, and I have family that lives in Georgia. I love everything about Georgia." Region will travel to Auburn this weekend for the Ole Miss game and plans to return to Tuscaloosa in two weeks for the SEC-West showdown between Alabama and LSU.
