Tommy Pizzurro, a 6-foot-3, 315-pound offensive guard at Hargrave Military Academy is the latest player from the highly touted program to reel in major college recruiting interest.
“I have offers from Kent State, Temple, and Western Carolina,” Pizzurro explained. “I have an official visit set up with Syracuse (10/31).”
“Tennessee, Miami (FL), North Carolina State, Michigan State, Boston College, and basically all of the Big East schools have been calling a lot. Virginia just called my coach and wanted my transcripts. So there are a lot of colleges coming in right now.”
Pizzurro was happy to receiver both of his D1 level offers.
“There was actually a lot of weight off of my shoulders. But it also gave me more motivation to work harder and keep playing at a high level so that they will keep coming.”
The big news may be that he has set up an official to the Cuse, but the Orangemen have yet to extend an official offer.
“They came down to watch me at practice and they told me that they want me to come down for an official visit,” Pizzurro informed. “They set up everything with my coach (Prunty) and I will be going with some of my other teammates.”
“I know it is for the Cincinnati game, because they are another school that has been recruiting me.”
Pizzurro played his senior season at St. Thomas Aquinas High (Fla.) and he helped lead the way to an undefeated season and he and his teammates were recognized as the best pre team in America.
He moved to Florida just before his senior season from Iona Prep (N.Y.) and it seems colleges may have lost track of where he was attending school, but now that everyone knows where he is the heat has been turned up in his recruitment in a major way, especially over the past couple of weeks.
Pizzurro feels that the decision to spend a prep year at Hargraves has greatly benefited his future in college.
“Coach Prunty is just a great coach and there are a lot of good coaches here,” Pizzurro began.
“We won a national championship and played some great teams at St. Thomas Aquinas, but still it is not even close to the level of competition that we have here. I am going up against the best defensive linemen everyday.”
Stay tuned with Scout.com for the latest updates on Pizzurro’s recruitment as he could be on the verge of pulling down more offers at any moment. Will he pull the trigger if the right one comes in?
