Scout.com Report: CB Brandon Smith
Profile: Brandon Smith High School:Central Lafourche (LA) High School Height: 6'1 Weight: 170 Commitment: Texas Tech SCOUTING REPORT Displays really good size for a corner. He is very athletic and has the ability to cover man to man. Shows great speed especially when he is running people down from behind to save touchdowns. Has very good transition and explosiveness. He doesn't live up to the "corners don't like to tackle" stereotype because he is very willing to come up and lay a hit on a running back bigger than him. Has also shown big play potential in the return game. If there is a small seem in the kickoff coverage, he will find it and make you pay. On the other end he likes to run down on kickoff coverage, and seems to take pride in being the first one down every time. He displays good ball skills when the ball is in the air, either making an interception or getting a knockdown. On deep passes he is good at locating and making a play on the ball. Shows great transition to breaks on shorter routes. Doesn't ever really get into a back pedal when in coverage which can make it easier to be beaten. He likes to do a side shuffle and rely on his athletic ability to get back in position to make a play. His technique in coverage needs to improve. He also likes to look in the backfield when playing man to man, and can be exposed by double moves.
