La Salle College High School and Roman Catholic High School squared off on Friday night at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School for Philadelphia Public League action and junior running back Jamal Abdur-Rahman and senior quarterback Drew Loughery led the Explorers to a big win.

Unfortunately for the Cahillites of Roman Catholic High School a buzz saw disguised in blue and gold were waiting for them at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School on Friday night as they were rolled by La Salle College High School to the tune of 45-7. While there were many players who helped the Explorers to the win, junior Jamal Abdur-Rahman and senior Drew Loughery were definitely the stars of the game.

Roman Catholic High School could not move the ball all night against La Salle and their opening series was just a sign of things to come as they went four and out on the first possession of the game. A punt ensued and on La Salle’s first play from scrimmage quarterback Drew Loughery hit wide receiver Connor Hoffman for a 40-yard touchdown pass. Things never got much better for Roman against the pass as Loughery’s second pass of the game went for a 47-yard touchdown to Tim Wade. Loughery finished the game having completed 9 of 15 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a rushing touchdown on a quarterback draw from eight yards out.

Junior running back Jamal Abdur-Rahman, a 5-foot-11, 170-pounder who already has an offer from Maryland looked extremely good in the game as well, despite a badly bruised knee that was obviously bothering him a little bit. Abdur-Rahman actually set up his own first touchdown of the game by returning an interception 36 yards to the eight yard line and then plunging in for the score on his second run.

On the game, Abdur-Rahman carried the ball 16 times for 100 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a score called back on a holding call. His longest rush of the game was a 37-yard touchdown run and one thing is for certain, when this young man hits the hole, he hits it extremely quickly and is in the secondary at the snap of a finger. His 37-yarder was effortless and he also caught two passes for 29 yards in the contest.

La Salle pulled their starters half way through the third quarter with the clock running and eventually won by a score of 45-7. We will have a video interview with Abdur-Rahman up on Saturday.
