Akuna Talks Recruiting

Kapolei safety Shaydon Akuna spoke with Scout.com, and the 6-foot-3, 209-pounder from the island of Oahu thought he had a pretty good handle on who he thought was interested in him for college, but a couple of newer offers really have him thinking again about what he wants to do and where he wants to go.

"I kind of feel like I'm setting a trend for the local boys," Akuna said after Florida State and Arkansas offered him. It's not often kids from Hawai'i get offers from those schools.

Akuna already officially visited Oregon State, a school that had been his leader for a long time. "It was a good trip," he said. "I loved it, it felt like home. They had some local boys there. I remember a lot of them from Laie."

He said that he expects to only take one more west coast visit, followed by three more back on the east coast. For the west coast trip, Oregon and USC are attractive options to Akuna, while for the east coast Florida State is a 'guarantee' to get a visit from him.

Akuna doesn't have any dates firmed up for visits, and right now two colleges are standing out in his mind. It's that familiar battle of the old (Oregon State) and the new (Florida State). He plans on taking all five of his official visits before making his final decision.
