The last time we saw Dustin Elisara, it was back in the spring and he was nursing an injury. But the 6-foot-1, 230-pound linebacker for Kapolei High School on the island of Oahu was able to play a full season healthy, and colleges definitely have been taking notice.
According to Kapolei Head Coach Darren Hernandez, everyone in the Pac-10 except for
have offered Elisara a scholarship. Hawai'i and Colorado have also offered.
Elisara has already visited
, and he'll trip out to Tucson, Ariz. with Lolohea and Hurricanes DT
this coming weekend.
"I was really nice," Elisara said of his official visit to Corvallis, Ore. "It's a nice town, and I could tell they have great support for the students there. I liked the campus and the people there were great. There were a lot of local boys there."
While the draw is great for many Hawaiian prospects to leave the state, Elisara is genuinely torn about whether his best option is home or away.
"I'm pretty sure I'll be saving an official visit for Hawai'i, and then I'll wait for anything else that comes in," Elisara told Scout.com recently. "It would be great to play in front of my hometown. If I had to choose tomorrow (to stay or go), I'd have to go home and start thinking about it."
Besides staying close to home, UH is also attractive to Elisara for academic concerns. He wants to go pre-med, and they have what he's looking for.
Elisara added that he plans on taking all five of his official visits before making the best decision for him. "I just have to see what fits me best," he said, adding that he doesn't have any other dates set besides the one for this coming weekend.
