Elite safety takes in first UGA game

Georgia was first to officially offer Brian Randolph on September 1, 2009 and he took in his first game in Athens last weekend. The high level recruit took it all in and shared his thoughts here.

“I went over to Georgia for the Auburn game and it was my first time being at Georgia for a game,” said Brian Randolph. “I really liked the game, the environment was real nice, and it was a great experience.”

“I got to talk to Coach [Mark] Richt and Coach [Willie] Martinez before the game so that was nice. They both thanked me for coming and they were happy to see me. Coach Martinez told me that he wanted me at UGA and that those feelings would never change.”

Talking to the Defensive Coordinator and Head Coach of a major program like Georgia could make some prospects a little nervous, but Randolph said that was not the case for him.

Mark Richt is labeled as a laid back type of guy and this 5-foot-11, 185 pound junior out of Marietta (GA) Kell said he is just that.

“Coach Richt makes you feel very comfortable when talking to him. He is not intimidating, he is very kind, and he is kind of like me. I have the same type of personality as he does, so it is easy for me to talk with him.”

That is one thing the hard-hitting safety likes about Georgia. That combined with the fact that they offered him early and are close to home put the Dawgs high on his list.

“Georgia is definitely in my top five with Georgia Tech (no offer), Tennessee, Mississippi State, and Florida. I don’t have a top school, but those are my top five.”

It was his first experience at a game between the hedges and something specifically stood out most to him after he left.

“The school pride at Georgia is great,” he said. “There were some Auburn fans there, but most were Georgia fans in red and black and they were loud throughout the game. Some of the fans even recognized me and told me they want me at Georgia and things like that.”

“It was cool to see fans care about their team that way. I was impressed by that.”

Randolph finished the season with 120 tackles and three interceptions on defense and 1,200 yards rushing on offense.
