The Rebels are losing one of their star safeties in Kendrick Lewis due to graduation at the end of the season. They are hoping they have found a replacement in the 4-Star Juco safety out of Mississippi Gulf Coast CC. To learn more about this candidate, read below.
"I committed to Ole Miss today," added
Damien Jackson
. "I just like the direction the program is headed, and I really felt at home on my official visit there earlier this year."
Ole Miss defeated LSU in thrilling fashion over the weekend in front of a national TV audience, and that might have helped seal the deal for the former Pineville (LA) resident.
"They were just flying around out there and having fun. I have always loved their attacking style and how they use
Kendrick Lewis
and
Johnny Brown
. It fits my strengths. I like to really get after the QB and cover the WR's."
Covering the receivers is something Jackson has had a knack for at MS Gulf Coast CC as he broke on to the scene with a state best 7 int's and 54 tackles (6 behind the line of scrimmage) his freshman season.
"I feel like I have a good idea at where the ball is going. I anticipate where the play is going really good. But my favorite part is hitting people. I use my frame (6' 3", 205) and strength to support the running game."
Jackson was one of the more heavily recruited juco safeties in the country as he held offers from North Carolina, Alabama, Auburn, Oklahoma State, Louisville, and Ole Miss before choosing the Rebels.
"I just felt at home at Ole Miss. I think Coach Nutt is doing a great job up there, and you know you are going to win when you go play for Coach Nutt. Kendrick (Lewis) is graduating, and they want me to come in there in the Spring and fight for his spot. It is going to be a great opportunity for me."
Damien is expected to sign during the early signing period in December.
