Smith Prepares for First Visitors
Nolen Smith profile "We finished 8-3," said Nolen fresh from a basketball win. "We lost in the first round of the playoffs to Cherokee County." Despite the early exit from the post season, Smith believes he had the season he needed to have to boost his stock as a college football prospect. "I don't think I had as good a year statistically as last year, but I had a good year," said Nolen. "I had about 60 catches for about 800 yards. We were more of a running team this year. "I got to line up some in the wildcat to get the ball. I got to throw it some too. I played quarterback when I played JV, so I was pretty comfortable back there." Smith currently holds offers from Jacksonville State, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee State, Troy, UAB and Vanderbilt. He believes a new option from the SEC may soon be on the way. "Mississippi State has been recruiting me pretty hard," said Nolen. "Coach (Mark) Hudspeth is supposed to come see me this week and Coach Torbush is coming next week. They said they may set up a home visit with one of those coaches." A few days ago the Alabama standout had the chance to speak with both of those coaches face to face when he attended the Egg Bowl. "I talked to the coaches a good bit when I was over there for their game against Ole Miss," said Nolen. "I really enjoyed it every time I went over there this season. "I had to leave at half time this Saturday because I had a basketball game that night. The enviornment was great. Everybody was real hyped up." Smith believes that the Bulldogs may soon offer him a chance to join their progam and he admits that offer may be too good to pass on. "They said they want to throw it around a pretty good bit next year," said Nolen. "I feel pretty good about my chances there. I think they are going to offer me pretty soon. If they offered me, I would have to think real hard about committing soon."
