Selinsgrove High School trailed Manheim Central High School through over 46 minutes of the game in the Pennsylvania Class AAA State Championship game on Friday night, but Manheim failed to put the Seals away. Selinsgrove got some fresh legs on the field at running back in the fourth quarter and won the game 10-7.
Selinsgrove High School won the Pennsylvania Class AAA State Championship on Friday night and Scout.com was watching to take a look at some of the stars in the game, most of which have a
Penn State
flavor.
Penn State commitment
Dakota Royer
put a lot of pressure on the quarterback in passing situations, but only registered one sack for 12 yards in the game. What a lot of people may have failed to understand until watching tonight’s game is that Manheim plays a very sound gap-control defense and Royer isn’t allowed to just go out there and go after people with his hair on fire. He did a solid job keeping contain and forcing runs to the inside during the game and was fighting off constant double teams against the run. Royer was not used much on offense which was to be frank, mind boggling. He only had one reception for six yards in the game which was his only touch on the offensive side of the ball. When you have a racehorse, you use him. There were a few times that Royer did get pushed around during the game, however considering that he looked very light and also was constantly double teamed it’s hard to get on him about that.
Ryan Keiser from Selinsgrove is an athlete that will walk on at Penn State and frankly, he looked very solid physically at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds. He showed great versatility in the game and was great on offense and defense registering four catches for 53 yards, a pass break-up and an interception.
Justin Gorman
, another player that we are hearing could get a preferred walk-on from Penn State completed 9 of 20 passes for 100 yards, one touchdown and an interception. Selinsgrove did a great job game-planning and then executing in the game to keep Gorman contained as a rusher after putting up over 1000 yards and 20 touchdowns this season. Gorman will most likely play wide receiver or safety at the collegiate level.
