UA Report: Nick Montana
Profile: Nick Montana Location: Westlake Village, California High School: Oaks Christian Position: Quarterback Size: 6-1/185 Recruiting: Committed to Washington 2010 Under Armour All-America Game Report Wednesday December 30, 2009 Positives: Montana looked cool and calm working around other talented quarterbacks. He is on Team Black working with Alabama commitment Phillip Sims and Michigan commitment Devin Gardner. His best throws were made on underneath and intermediate routes. His most consistent throw was on quick slants and he delivered it on time with very accuracy. The throws he made less than 15-20 yards were with better technique and with a better spiral. He was constantly listening, working hard, and looking to improve his game. Needs Improvement: While he threw with good accuracy on the shorter throws, he never really got it going with the deep ball. He did not have the same consistent spin on the ball when having to squeeze into tighter coverage and or throw it over the coverage down the field. His release was a little inconsistent and taking reps with multiple quarterbacks never let him get into a groove, so he was a hot and cold QB on day one. Overall his arm needs to get stronger and that is what hurt him most on Wednesday when looking to throw the ball down field. Thursday December 31, 2009 Montana never really settled in on day one, but he looked much more comfortable on day two. He was not rushing his throws, he was not as jumpy and he just showed a smooth release and better consistency on Thursday. The best throw I saw him make was when he hit James Louis about 20 yards down the seem in between the linebacker and safety. It was the perfect throw and the only throw that could have been caught. The defense he is going against in practice is tough and he did have to hold onto the ball a few times in seven on seven and then he was pressured a lot in team work, but he had a stronger outing today than yesterday. He has the most consistent and smoothest motion of any of the quarterbacks in Orlando. Look for more on Montana on Thursday December 31.
