In a game that featured some of the top high school players in the country, two UF commits were…
The opening kickoff was fumbled by Kenny Shaw which caused very poor position at their own one yard line. After two incompletions by Jesse Scroggins, he eluded heavy pressure and found Auburn bound RB Michael Dyer for a big gain. Two plays later the game had its first big play when Jonathan Dowling intercepted a Scroggins pass and returned it for 56 yards for a TD, after a missed extra point, the Black was up 6-0.
The White's second drive did not get any better, Scroggins again had to get away from pressure, this time he fumbled and Dominique Easley recovered and the Black was in great field position. Miami bound RB Storm Johnson ripped off a 10 yarder, then QB Nick Montana hit James Louis over the middle and the Black was inside the 20. The White defense stepped up and Cody Parkey missed a field goal and the White team had come up with a big stop.
Blake Bell took over at QB, but was unable to get anything going, making matters worse was a poor snap on the punt that was never handled and the Black had the ball inside the 10. Two plays later Nick Montana rolled left and found Solomon Patton open in the endzone for a five yard TD pass. A botched hold made the Black miss their second extra point and the game was 12-0 heading into the second quarter.
The defenses started to assert themselves as the teams traded punts. The White was unable to muster anything offensively, after another punt, UF commit Demar Dorsey tried to field a punt on the run, he fumbled, and Brandon Coleman picked the ball up and cruised into the endzone, a successful extra point cut the lead to 12-7.
The Black went down the field on the first play but QB Phillip Sims overthrew an open Justin Hunter forcing another punt, Lamarcus Joyner fielded the punt, while trying to get wide, he fumbled, was unable to recover and the Black had the ball in White territory. The Black turned to their third QB on the day with Michigan commit Devin Gardner. Gardner went down the field to Travis Dickson and drew a pass interference penalty giving them a first down on the 11 yard line. Gardner took a QB keeper wide right down to the three, a loss by Mack Brown set up third down- Gardner connected with Patton, but were a yard shy of a first down. They went for it on 4th down, but Gardner missed Dickson and the White had 98 yards to go with 1:30 to go in the second quarter. Again, nothing materialized offensively and the headed into the locker rooms for halftime.
The Black extended their lead with a way 35 yard punt return by Texas commit Darius White. The White went on the march with QB Chase Rettig finding UCLA commit Jordan James out of the backfield with a big gain down the sideline. Two plays later however, Easley broke through and de-cleated Rettig causing a fumble that was returned 36 yards by Todd Chandler. That set up a TD pass from Sims to Texas commit Mike Davis who went up over Lamarcus Joyner in the back of the endzone. It was 26-7 the Black.
The White took over needing to make something happen and quickly. On third down, Dowling made his second big play when he slid in front of the WR for his second pick on the day. Gardner found White for an 11 yard TD and Black put this game away as they were up 32-7.
A very uneventful 4th quarter ensued and the final was 32-7 for the Black. Congratulations to all players who participated in the Under Armour All America Game.
