Scarlet Knights vs Wolfpack
Mustafa Greene, the 6-foot, 200-pound three-star running back from Irmo High School in Columbia, S.C., says he'll be making his announcement during a press conference at his high school on signing day. "It's really about who gives me the best deal overall," Greene said about his criteria for making a decision. "I want the best academics, playing time, football program…the whole package." Greene, ranked as the No. 43 running back in the country by Scout.com, now favors Rutgers slightly over North Carolina State and Georgia, but admits it's mainly between the Scarlet Knights and Wolfpack. He visited Rutgers officially on Dec. 5. "My opportunity to play early there is great," he said. "I had a good time on my trip and really loved it there. All the guys treated me like I was already part of the team." The Scarlet Knights visited Greene at home last week and reiterated how much they could use a back like him. He also hosted NC-State tight ends coach Jim Bridge. "We get along real good," he said. "He's recruiting me, but he won't be my coach. He's a cool dude though. I get along good with the running back coach (Jason Swepson) too." The Wolfpack are recruiting Greene the hardest. "They've been recruiting me really hard recently," he said. "I think it's a great opportunity to come in and play. They've got a bunch of backs leaving, so the chance is there." The reason that Georgia isn't higher on Greene's list is their depth at running back. "They're already pretty deep," he said. "They've got some good backs there now and I'd probably have to wait a year or two to get a real shot. I think it's a real good program though and they're still in it." The Bulldogs also stopped by Greene's home last week, but he doesn't remember which coach it was. "I just call them all ‘coach'," he said. "I'm not great with names." Rutgers seems like the team to beat for Greene's signature. Greene finished his senior season with over 1,300 yards rushing and 21 touchdowns despite missing six games with a high right ankle sprain. He reports a 3.2 core GPA and 1110 two-part SAT.
