Coty Blanchard-" It is amazing. It is a great feeling. It is hard to describe today when I got that award. I was not really expecting to win when I got down there, because of the other people that were up for it. Those guys are great players as well. When they called my name out, I had to gather myself to make a speech. It was a wow moment. I got back of the year so I had to think of 2 speeches. It was a great day for me and my family."
You recently chose Jacksonsville State as your school. What was it about them that made you decide to attend school there?
Blanchard-" Because they have been there from the beginning. They have been there since anybody ever started recruiting me. I can play both baseball and football there. When they told me that, they sound sincere about it. I didn't get that feeling when other people told me that at other schools. I really trust the coaches at Jax St."
Have you sit back and thought about the last few months and what you have accomplished? Winning the state championship on a last minute drive and now winning Mr Football.
Blanchard-" I have never really sat down and thought about it. I am sure when I look back on it, I will be overwhelmed. Things are happening so fast and so good, I just don't think anything can top this year."
Two people that have been very influential in your life on and off the field are your coach Trip Curry and your Father Fran. Tell me about them and how they have gotten you to this point?
Blanchard-" Coach Curry has been there ever since I started playing in the 8th grade. Coach Curry pretty much put all his chips into me. I started a game my freshman year. Then my 10th grade year we went 5-5. He told me after that year, he has saw great things coming out of me and believed in me. The next two years we went 29-1. He has helped me so much during the recruiting process. He has kept me grounded and consisent.
My Dad is without a doubt the most influential person in my life. I didn't even start playing football until my 7th grade year. My Dad taught me how to throw a football, he taught me everything. For him to be a coach on our team this year and be on the sidelines meant so much to me. He would come to me before the games and let me pick the balls I liked and little things like that I appreciated. My Dad has always done whatever he could to help me."
After a tremendous high school career that came to end today, what can you do to top it on the next level?
Blanchard-" Win a national championship plain and simple. I want to win a OVC conf title and National Championship while at Jacksonville State."
One thing I have learned over the past 12 months meeting and scouting Coty Blanchard. Do not bet against him, the kid has " IT".
