McElroy Building His List
Year in and year out college coaches around the country try to find offensive weapons that can bring speed and cause mismatches for opposing defenses. In 2011 one of those prospects may be C.J. McElroy. In his junior season McElroy hauled in 40-receptions for 637 yards to go along with 37 rushes for 400 yards and 10 overall touchdowns. Even after excelling at both running back and receiver this season McElroy does have a position he prefers. "I like to play receiver out of the slot," McElroy explained. When you have speed that McElroy possesses it can cause mismatches lining up against linebackers and safeties. "My 40 time has gone down to a 4.4 flat. I run track and on the track I have run a 4.37." McElroy states he grew up a Longhorns fan and has been receiving a little bit of attention from them as well as some other schools. "U of H, SMU and Texas A&M and Texas has been a little bit," McElroy answered about who's been showing him the most attention. McElroy plans to attend SMU and Texas A&M‘s junior days but at the moment has only been to one, where he says he learned a lot. "I went to U of H and went to their junior day. It was good and I learned a lot down there about their school, academics, football program and the weight room. It was real interesting." The 5-foot-10 and 180-pound McElroy doesn't have any offers at the moment but is focusing on the little things right now to compile a favorites list. And the top factor in his criteria is the amount of interest the programs are showing him. His list reciprocates that interest. "Texas A&M is first, then Houston and then SMU is my top three right now," McElroy stated. Another school McElroy is interested in is the Oklahoma Sooners. "Oh yes sir," McElroy said when asked if he was interested in the Sooners. "They have been sending me letters. I have been looking at Oklahoma as well. They are my 4th option at the moment." When making a decision on where he wants to go these are the things McElroy will be looking at to help make his decision. "I'm looking at the fans, the school, academics and getting early playing time," McElroy stated.
