Chris Mayes talks first offer
"Last week my coach told me that Oklahoma State called him," said Chris Mayes. "He told me they were very interested in me. He said that they were offering me a full-ride (scholarship). "It's great to know that I have a scholarship now. Oklahoma State seems like a really solid school. I like they're a football program, too. They've been really good over the last few years." The mail is pouring in for the Middle Georgia prospect. "I've received lots of mail from a lot of different schools," Mayes said. "North Carolina sent me a handwritten letter just the other day. And I got another handwritten letter from Miami a few weeks ago. Miami has sent me a couple of handwritten letters." Mayes made a name for himself on the hardwood. Last season was the first time he ever played football. He still plays basketball and remains one of the top players in his region. "I'm averaging a double-double every game," he said. "I'm averaging about 10 points a game, and over 10 rebounds a game. And defensively I'm averaging about a block per game, and over two steals per game." Mayes will try a new sport this spring. "I think I'm gonna go out for track this season," he commented. "It's something that the track coach motivated me to do. I'll be throwing the shot put and the discus." Chris Mayes' leading schools remain the same (Tennessee, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Miami, Oklahoma State).
