Massillon WR Lands Wolverine Offer
Massillon (OH) wide receiver Devin Smith was offered a scholarship by Michigan Friday, bringing his total offer count to four. Smith previously received offers from Ball State, Michigan State and Toledo. "I was offered by Michigan yesterday, and that makes me feel real good," Smith exclaimed. "Yesterday morning I was called to the office at school, and they handed me a fax from Michigan. It said that I was being offered a scholarship by Michigan, from Coach (Rich) Rodriguez. It said they would also be mailing me a copy to my house next week." Smith, one of the top receivers in the Ohio class of 2012, discussed the effect of landing the Wolverine offer. "This offer is huge to me because it shows me I can play at the highest level of college football," he continued. "I'm really happy, and I never thought I would get offered by Michigan. I know their program has been down, but they won't be staying down for long. This is a big offer, in my mind, and it means a lot." Although he has never visited Michigan before, Smith is planning to take an unofficial visit in the near future. He also discussed his two Big Ten offers. "I like having offers from both schools, Michigan State and Michigan, to be honest," he stated. "I'm honored to have both offers. I want to get up to Michigan and meet the coaches, and see the stadium and everything. I like Big Ten football, so I'm pretty happy right now." Michigan has success recruiting Massillon in the past, with J. T. Turner currently on the roster as a redshirt freshman, and former Tiger Shawn Crable recently starring for the Wolverines.
