Poland (OH) athlete Darius Patton added to his offer list recently with the news that Michigan had…
Patton Has Three Offers
In his first year at Poland Seminary (Ohio), Darius Patton made his presence felt, catching 80 passes for 980 yards and snagging four interceptions. That has earned him interest from Ohio State, Cincinnati and Michigan and offers from Toledo, West Virginia and Michigan State. "Michigan State basically got in contact with my coaches and I started to talk to them after they came to see me in the school. My first impression, meeting the recruiting coach, Coach Narduzzi, was that he was a very energetic guy. That tells me a lot about their program that he was that hyped up to come see somebody. Patton says he has not visited any of the schools he has been offered by or been to any junior days because of basketball. He says he was supposed to visit Toledo, but didn't make it and had an opportunity to head to Michigan State this weekend as well. "I would like to go up there (MSU). This was the weekend I was going to go up for the Ohio State basketball game, but right now, basketball is my first priority." Patton has been to West Virginia and seen the campus, but not as a recruit. "I see them as a really good school. I got the offer and I think about the past players that have been there and how they've been putting players in the league and how their offense is and how they run it. They spread it out and the type of receivers they like...they don't worry about size, just if you have the speed and can get down the field. I've been down there on the outside, just to see what it looked like, not worrying about football or anything. As far as the campus, it's really not that big, but I can see myself in there." The in-state Buckeyes are another school that has been showing interest and have been straightforward with him about where he projects for them: defense. However, he takes that as motivation. "You know how they are, they take everything slowly," he said. "Coach Tressel takes his time with everything. I've been talking to the recruiting coordinator and I got word back from them that they aren't looking at me as a wide receiver because they have lots of guys in my 5'9 180-lb group, so they'll recruit me as a DB. That motivates me to work harder and step my game up, because I want to prove I can play receiver for them, but if not, I can play DB too." Another Big Ten school showing interest is Michigan, where former teammate Cullen Christian signed a letter of intent this year. "I like them a lot. Coach Rodriguez came from West Virginia and he runs same type of offense I like and that's why I'm comparing Michigan and West Virginia. I talk to a couple players, I played with Cullen, so I've been building chemistry with him. I think I'm getting there. I think I'm getting pretty close to getting an offer from them, but that's just me thinking. I like them a lot."
