They say speed kills in football, and it looks like the college recruiters agree as the Christopher Columbus High product is one of fastest (4.33 forty) and most sought after receivers in the country. To learn more about the Miami (FL) resident, click below.
"I am a playmaker on offense," added
Tacoi Sumler
. "That's why they call me 'Primetime'. I use my God given talents and speed to try and get into the endzone."
Sumler caught 57 passes for 994 yards and 17 touchdowns as a junior. He was named 2nd Team All State at Gulliver Prep at receiver for the 2B classification and 1st Team All Dade County at receiver. Now he wants to show what he can do in Florida's largest classification.
"I transferred to (Christopher) Columbus High in January. I want to prove everybody wrong that said I only did good because of where I played."
Is there a big difference in the talent level between a 6A school than a 2B program?
"Not really. I mean, some of the kids are bigger, but athletic wise, you see the same athletes in 2B as you do in 6A. It is just a little more organized in 6A and the players are a little bigger. They wanted me to come in here and be the guy to get them over the hump against the schools like (Miami) Central and (Miami) N' West. They have been giving us some problems in the past, but they think I can be the big playmaker on offense they have been lacking."
Sumler has had the reputation as one of Miami's fastest players. The recent Under Armour combine proved it.
"I ran a 4.33 forty, 4.22 short shuttle, and 6.73 three cone. They were all timed electronically."
Tacoi has been picking up scholarship offers daily, literally. This past week was no different.
"My most recent ones are Auburn, Nebraska, Rutgers, Marshall, Central Florida, and Kansas State. Those came in last week."
Which colleges are being the most consistent throughout Sumler's recruitment?
"That would definitely be Oregon and Clemson, but then you have schools like Kansas State that are sending me letters everyday and emailing me everyday. Arkansas really keeps in touch. Arkansas is actually one of the schools who have not offered me yet, but they are sending me hand written letters everyday. I am looking forward to talking to one of their coaches soon. Ole Miss keeps close tabs with me too. They all keep in contact, but I guess those are the ones that come off of the top of my head."
What stands out about Oregon?
"They have one of the best facilities in the nation. They are one of the best programs too. I personally think they are about to take over the PAC 10. Of course, you know those uniforms are a factor. I am not going to lie, they have some of the best looking uniforms in college football."
What about Clemson?
"
Jacoby Ford
just ran a 4.24 at the (NFL) combine, and they did a big write up on me and said I could be better than Jacoby. If I get a chance to get to the NFL, I will take it."
Ole Miss?
"They are one of those schools I talk to a lot. They send me a lot of letters and keep in contact too. They are a high program on my list because they were one of the first programs to get in contact with me. South Carolina was first and Ole Miss was second. That means a lot to me.
Ralph Williams
and
Frank Crawford
go there too. They tell me I will like it a lot over there. I also liked the way they used
Dexter McCluster
. A lot of people compare me to Dexter from around here. I like how they use their playmakers over there."
And Kansas State?
"I talk to Coach Rick Rain a lot. He sends a lot of hand written letters and asks how my days are going. They email me a lot and show me that they are really concerned."
Who is closest to offering next?
"I was going to say Stanford, but they also recently offered me. I am looking forward to Florida and California. Those are two big schools I am talking to a lot too. I am also talking to Southern Cal a lot. We are forming a bond.
Frankie Telfort
and Todd McNair from Gulliver are there too. They talk real good about Southern Cal to me. Those three are the schools I am excited about that have not offered me yet."
Any future visits on tap?
"I will be going on a lot of trips this summer, but I have not just sat down and gone over them yet with my family and coaches. I am going to get around to that real soon."
