Devin Smith: One Of Ohio's Finest
Devin Smith, Massillon (OH), is one of the top wide receiver prospects in Ohio, and he is adding BCS scholarship offers weekly. "My most recent offers are Boston College, Nebraska and Notre Dame," Smith said. "Nebraska is a school that shocked me with the offer, and I thought it was just some paper explaining about their program. My coach opened it, and we were both really surprised to see it was an offer, because we hadn't been hearing much from them at all. Nebraska is a school I will consider very strongly." "Notre Dame actually surprised me too, with their offer," he continued. "My coach called my dad to tell him Notre Dame just offered, and my dad was pretty excited about that. I was shocked too, to be honest. That's a big offer, and one I'm real happy about. I think the Notre Dame coaches knew me from when they were at Cincinnati." Smith, 6-foot-2, 175-pounds, had a break-out season in 2009, with 989 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns for the Tigers. He is also hearing from the home-state Ohio State Buckeyes, but has not been offered at this point. "They really haven't said anything about offering," he stated. "They say they like what they've seen on film, but I'm not sure where things stand really. It's one school I hope offers, but now that I have so many big offers, I can see there are other places for me. I've been there a lot, and like the coaches, but we have to see how that goes." With over ten offers to his credit, Smith is not ready to name a leader at this point, and is still keeping his options open. "I really haven't sat down and thought about that at this point," Smith said. "I'm still receiving offers, and I'm still taking unofficial visits, so I'm still wide open. There are other schools that could still be offering, so I don't want to put out any list at all." "I am hoping to visit Notre Dame on March 20th, and we are pretty excited about that," he stated. "There may be others coming up, but nothing is set right now. I'm not sure about going to any camps next summer."
