One SEC visit down and one to go
Posted Apr 12, 2010
The 6' 8", 230-pound forward out of Houston (TX) took in an official visit to the University of Mississippi over the weekend. To read how the visit went, click below.
"That was our family's first time to see the Ole Miss campus," added
's father, John, on their drive back from the Ole Miss trip. "It ended up being a very/very nice campus. We really didn't know what to expect, but it was beautiful and very nice."
The first impression was a good one.
"The first impression to me was that it is a tight knit community," stated Mr. Carter. "It has that small town feel, and we were just impressed with the overall visual look of the campus. It was actually a pleasant surprise."
What did the Christian Life Academy small forward want to focus on before came on the trip?
"I guess I wanted to get a feel for the town and community," added Jason Carter. I went to the square and walked around and went out with the players to get a good feel the community. I come from the fourth largest city in the country so I wanted to see how it would feel being in a small town. I just wanted to get a feel for what it was like."
Was he comfortable with the small town environment of Oxford (MS)?
"Very much. I came away feeling good about everything. I liked it all, pretty much. The coaches are great. The practice facility is brand new and state of the art. The guys on the team are good guys. It was all good."
Basketball related, what all did Jason learn?
"I just wanted to meet the staff and see the locker rooms and facilities and get a feel for all of it. I really had no idea what they had to offer, facility wise, but I got a chance to see it all and meet the whole staff."
Jason's father thinks he was impressed with Ole Miss.
"I think there is no question he is pretty excited about it (at Ole Miss). I think as a family we were most impressed with the Fed Ex academic center and the structure they have in place for their players. They give them a lot of academic support and attention. We were very impressed with that and just the overall landscape of the campus. It is beautiful, really nice. You would think it would be old because it is such a historical university but it is actually fairly new. It just looked and felt new. Even all of the dorms looked new. We were just impressed with the quality of Ole Miss."
Where does Ole Miss now stand in the big recruiting picture?
"I think he is really excited about the opportunities he would have at Ole Miss," added Mr. Carter. "We have not had a chance to go into details about it yet because we are still driving back home, but Jason came away very excited about it."
What was the Ole Miss staff's message to Jason?
"They just wanted to let us know that it is a family environment," added John Carter. "He would be around a good group of people, and like I said earlier, it is a tight knit environment and a very safe community. We know he would be well taken care of if we were to Jason into their hands."
Who else is in the picture?
"Jason will be going over to Alabama this weekend for an official visit. There are some more schools who are interested (Colorado, Texas A&M and Arkansas), but we are really focusing on Ole Miss and Alabama right now."
