Barnett Adds Trojans
The 6-foot-5, 240-pound tight end from A. Maceo Smith High in Texas has racked up a number of terrific scholarship offers from schools like Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arkansas, LSU, Kansas and Miami (FL), but his offer list was bolstered on Wednesday night when Lane Kiffin and the USC Trojans let him know some good news. "I wanted to let you know that I received an offer from the University of Southern California," Chris Barnett informed. "I have been getting recruited by Lane Kiffin and and Coach Garza. They were recruiting me back when they were at Tennessee." The Trojans signed a couple of high profile tight ends but they wanted to make sure that the OU commit knows that there is still a good opportunity for him to play. "They sent me an (offer) letter, and then Lane Kiffin sent me a handwritten letter," Barnett explained. "He said (in the letter) that me and Xavier Grimble have completely different styles and that there is still a lot of opportunity for me to play there. They also play the tight end a lot and are great program." The Scout300 member was one of the standouts at the Nike Camp held on the campus of TCU this past weekend. He has a great frame, runs solid routes, and catches the ball well. He has also added some nice weight to his frame over the past 12 months. "I weighed in at about 225 at the thing last year and I weighed in at 240 something now, and I feel I am faster now, so it is a 15-20 pounds of good weight," Barnett said. "I have been running and doing heavy lifting and then on the days I have not been doing the heavy lifting I have been doing a lot of reps with less weight. I have also been working hard on my route running and trying to work on going up to get the ball and catch it away from my body."
