Holland High has not had a Division-1 football recruit in quite some time, but Nate Ricketts looks like he is about to change that.
The 6'2, 215-lb sophomore middle linebacker stepped right into the varsity last fall and finished with 129 tackles and 4.5 sacks.
So far, the colleges have been slow to find out about him, but one that has been recruiting him is Michigan State, a place he has been several times.
"The spring game was pretty good," he said. "I've been there quite a bit. I've been to couple games, and went to basketball game. They keep telling me come back."
Ricketts camped at Michigan State last year and performed well enough to be invited back several times since.
"I did go to their overnight camp. They said they liked how I performed. They liked how I did for my age."
Last summer, Ricketts also camped at Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan. He says he has been invited to several other camps, but is not sure where he is headed yet this summer.
He says it is a good bet that he will be in East Lansing once again, and although it is early, MSU is one of his top schools.
"I'd like to go to MSU," he admitted, "but it's up in the air. I'm still young so there's a lot of time still."
