Ash Prefers Pac-10
Robert Ash, the 6-foot-2, 249-pound three-star defensive end/defensive lineman from Cosumnes Oaks High School in Elk Grove, Calif., has scholarship offers from San Diego State, Nevada, Boise State, Washington State, Washington, Cal Poly (first offer in March), Oregon State and Fresno State. "I've only been to Boise State, Oregon State and Cal Poly," Ash said. "I really like the coaching staff at Boise State," he said. "It's a great city and it reminds me of my hometown. It's very relaxed and laid-back. The people there are great too. I also like the weather and how they have four seasons there." Another coach that Ash says he gets along with Oregon State's defensive line coach (Joe Seumalo). "He's real nice and all the coaches there are real friendly," he said. "It's a tight-knit staff. "I also really like the Pac-10," he said. Ash's preference for the Pac-10 is why he also lists Washington and Washington State amongst his favorites. "I like how Washington State is rebuilding and trying to build something there," he said. "That could be a good opportunity to make an impact. "And Washington is coming up too," he said. "They have great coaches." Growing up, Ash says he followed Ohio State. "My dad is from Ohio, so we used to watch Ohio State," he said. The Buckeyes are not recruiting him. Ash says he does not have a timeframe for making a decision. "I don't want to commit and decommit," he said. "So when I do it, I want to stick to it. "I want a family environment and go where I feel like I can fit in," he said. "I'm hoping to go and get better and hopefully help the team too." Ash finished his junior season with 53 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and four sacks. "I have a good motor and great footwork," he said. "I have a high IQ and I'm a great leader. I'm very tenacious." He says he can bench 225-pounds, squat 315 and has a 25-inch vertical jump. "I want to improve my flexibility and agility," he said. "I also want to get stronger." He reports a 3.2 core GPA and a 1500 three-part SAT.
