Notre Dame is still searching for a quarterback for its 2011 recruiting class. Marquise Williams…
October Commitment Planned
Marquise Williams, the 6-foot-4, 220-pound four-star quarterback from Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte, N.C., will be graduating early in December and says he plans to make his commitment in October. "I was gonna make it this summer, but I'll be taking my official visits in September and October and then I'll decide," Williams said. Williams, ranked as the No. 17 quarterback in the country by Scout.com, says he'll be visiting Michigan officially on Oct. 9 for the Michigan State game. "It's coach Rich Rodriquez," Williams said about what he likes about the Wolverines. "I like how he's been after me since he was at West Virginia. He knows how to coach quarterbacks and I think he's gonna turn it around at the Big House." He also plans to attend the Michigan camp in June. "I know they're having some issues right now," Williams said about the Wolverines recent self-imposed sanctions. "But I'm not even concerned about it. I don't put too much thought into it." Although Williams still denies a leader, he favors Michigan, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Virginia Tech and LSU. All have offered. He plans to visit Virginia Tech officially for their game against Wake Forest on Oct. 16. "It's a great environment," he said about the Hokies. "I went to their Miami game last year and I loved it. It rained the whole time, but none of the fans left. They love their football." Williams says that Virginia Tech, Michigan and North Carolina are the three that are recruiting him the hardest. "They just hit me up a lot," he said. "They send emails and keep in contact with my father regularly too." The closest of those schools to Williams is North Carolina at two hours away. "But that doesn't matter," he said. "I'll go anywhere. You have to leave home eventually." His cousin, Robert Marquise Williams, played cornerback for the Tar Heels in the late 90's. "He said they really treat their players well," he said. "It's a great place. "I also love coach Butch Davis," he said. "He's one of the best." Another coach that Williams likes is Notre Dame's new head man, Brian Kelly. "I like him and his whole staff," he said. "They're incredible and they've been recruiting me when they were at Cincinnati too. "I like how they've always had great quarterbacks," he said. "I think that they'll turn it around over there. If coach Kelly doesn't have them winning this season, I bet he will in his second year." Williams plans to visit Notre Dame unofficially this summer. "I really like the Irish tradition," he said. Another school that Williams says he'd like to visit in LSU. "I've always wanted to visit Baton Rouge," he said. "I actually have a friend who lives there now. Some of the other schools that have offered Williams are South Florida, UCF, East Carolina, Kansas, Louisville, Syracuse, UCLA, Kansas State, Boston College and few others. "I want a good community," he said. "And to feel at home. I want to go where I can become a better man." Williams plans on majoring in sports broadcasting and reports a 3.0 core GPA and 1780 SAT.
