A First for Baker
Like many other prospects, Lancaster (Texas) Lancaster High safety Brandon Baker has been doing his best to showcase his skills for college coaches this spring. His efforts have begun paid off and he landed his first offer this past monday. "I just found out that UNLV offered me, they are my first offer," said Baker. The 6-foot-2, 186-pound defensive back was really excited to land his first offer and had some good things to say about UNLV. "I feel great about them offering me. I think that it could be a good place for me and I feel the coaches could make me a better player there also. For many recruits, the first offer is a milestone because it often starts a domino effect that results in several other schools offering scholarships as well. Several other schools have been showing interest in Baker, and he believes some of them could be close to offering. "I've been hearing from Tulsa, Memphis, Mississippi State, Texas Tech and Colorado State. I think that Colorado State, Texas Tech and Memphis might offer me. I talked to their coaches and they said they like the way that I play and they might offer." The Lancaster high defender currently has no favorites and wants to take his time and enjoy the recruiting process. There are however, a few things that he would like to find in his future college destination. "I want to go to a school that has a good graduation percentage. I would like a team that wins a lot and has a good tradition. I also want a team that will better me as an athlete and a person." Baker previously visited Tulsa for their junior day and plans on making several more visits this summer. "I'm going to go to Tulsa, Oklahoma State and Houston for their camps this summer."
