Burden Ready For His Time Now
Wayne Burden is used to sharing team success with his teammates. He certainly has had some good ones. His teammates have included last season seniors Andre Monroe, Charles Brown and Kortlan Jackson as well as classmate Kevin McReynolds. But Wayne Burden is a name coaches are getting to know as well and he is ready to back up all the buzz. He stands 6'1" and weighs 238 pounds and is a tackling machine. In the two biggest games last season, against DeMatha Catholic and Alter (Ohio) he recorded 17 (12 solo) and 18 (11 solo, ff and 3 tfl) tackles respectively. He has received much recognition from the area media outlets but it is time for college coaches to take notice. "I have been really working out hard this offseason," said Burden. "I have taken the time to visit a lot of places and I plan on doing several camps as well. I do have an offer from St. Francis in Pennsylvania and it is great to have an offer under my belt but I really want to play at the highest level so I am ready to do whatever I need to get there." Burden has had the opportunity to visit some schools already. ‘I have been hearing from many schools so I decided to take some trips to check out the ones that I am interested in as well. I have been to Georgia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina State, UCF, Pittsburgh and Duke." Burden talks about each one. Georgia Tech – The coaches really made me feel welcome there. I like the facilities and it is a nice school. North Carolina State – I got to see the whole campus. It was nice. They have the best facilities that I have seen. North Carolina – I wasn't able to stay too long there but I did see the practice and I liked it. I like the coaches there too. UCF – That was a really nice school. I like being in Florida a lot. I like the coaches there, they were great. Pittsburgh – They are very focused there. Football is definitely a priority there. I like it being in the city. The facilities were great. Duke – I was able to see the spring game. I didn't see the campus as much as other places but their stadium was nice and the coaches were nice too. Burden will be seeing some of those same places as he gets out for some summer camps this summer. "I know I will be going to Georgia Tech, North Carolina, UCF and then a few others I haven't decided on yet. The schools recruiting me the hardest are Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, Illinois, UCF, North Carolina and Texas Tech. I may try and get to Illinois and Texas Tech as well." Burden has received all-met, all-conference and all-league recognition. He reports a 2.6 GPA.
