Marco Jones Talks About Commitment
Marco Jones was the first of two players to commit to Head Coach Mike London and Virginia on Sunday. The commitments literally came minutes apart. Joining Jones was fellow defensive line recruit Vincent Croce (Good Counsel HS) who announced to Coach London shortly after Jones. For Jones it has ended one of the busier recruiting periods for any player in the area. He received eight offers over the last month alone. He is one of the fastest rising prospects but decided that there was no need to continue as Virginia was the place he wants to be. "It was my third time there and I just fell in love with it," said Jones. "I just figured it was the place that felt right so why wait and waste time so I just committed." Jones was just finishing up a junior day when he talked with his parents and then Coach London to give him the news. "Coach London was talking finishing up our visit and Vincent Croce, who I have been talking to about schools and recruiting, and I just thought it would be a good time to commit together. I hope with me and Vince committing that we will get the ball rolling and other good players will commit and we will have a great class coming in to build on. Me and Vince will definitely be reaching out to players to get them to come on board with us." Jones had narrowed his choices down to four before selecting Virginia. He also hasn't ruled out taking a few official visits this fall. "I was down to Rutgers, Penn State, Maryland and Virginia. I may take a few official visits next fall. I may go to Rutgers, Penn State, Stanford and of course Virginia. Even though Jones may take some visits, he feels good about his decision. "I love Virginia. The coaches are great and the academics are really good as well. I committed and I am excited about where the program is going." Jones talked about what the Virginia fans can expect from him when he hits campus in a little more than a year. "I play hard and have an up tempo style. We are going to help change things there and win games. The defense is going to set the tone playing fast and hard. The fans can also expect us to win an ACC Championship because that's what I am expecting when I go there."
