Scout's Take: Mike Bellamy
Profile: Mike Bellamy Location: Punta Gorda, Fla. High School: Charlotte Position: Running Back Class: 2011 Height: 5-foot-10 Weight: 175 pounds Scout's Take Bellamy is a game changer; that is the type of player he is. He accelerates quickly, he has that gear to run away from defenders in the open field, and he is a threat to score from anywhere at any time. He is best on the edge when he can use his speed, his vision, and his cut-back ability. He still needs to add some weight and muscle to run effective between the tackles on the next level, but he is ready today to make plays on the edge or out in the flats because of his speed and moves. His hands are a strength of his also. Not only can he take a hand-off and turn it into a big play, but he can catch the ball extremely well for a running back also. He possesses soft hands, he catches the ball away from his body, and he can make adjustments on the ball also. Another thing some may not recognize about Bellamy is durability. He plays each game and he is productive. He has been making plays on the varsity level since he was a freshman. In 2009, he played in 13 games and he ran for 118 yards or more in each game and averaged over nine yards per carry. He may not look like a back that can carry the ball without getting banged up, but he has proved that he can tote the pigskin game after game and never slow down. The college game is definitely different than the high school game, but Scout expects Bellamy to continue his productivity on the next level.
