Riyahd Jones plays wide receiver for Carver High in Columbus Georgia, but he feels his skill set is…
Jones picks Big Blue
"Coach [Tee] Martin offered over the phone an hour after camp ended and I committed right when he offered me," said Riyahd Jones. "He was really excited and Coach [Joker] Phillips was also when I called him and told him the news." "I committed quickly because I've been to Kentucky twice and I was impressed with the staff and the facilities both times." Although Jones spends most of his time on the offensive side of the ball in high school, he will go to Lexington to play defense for the Wildcats. "They offered me as a cornerback and I did pretty good at camp. I was fundamentally sound in every drill and I have good technique. I have more technique at corner than I do receiver and I'm more natural at it." Jones showed he has the speed they want at corner against stiff SEC competition. He ran the 40 yard dash in 4.51 seconds and turned in a impressive 4.1 second short shuttle over the weekend. Once he turned in those quick times and showed his skills at corner, the UK staff turned on the affection towards the Georgia athlete. "They really made me feel welcome from the trainers down to the some of the players," said the 6-foot, 163 pound corner. "My mom loves it and my dad feels the same way even though he's overseas. He loves what he hears. My dad and Coach Tee have talked over the phone before and they really clicked." Other schools like Mississippi State and Clemson are showing Jones a lot of interest, but they have yet to extend him an offer. If they, or any other programs do, will he listen? "I will take other schools into consideration I think but I will limit my contact. I might take a few officials but I'm basically all Kentucky." "It felt great to get that offer because I worked so hard and I feel like I deserve this. I tore up the camps I've been to this summer and all schools said they were gonna offer but UK pulled the trigger first and that shows that they have a lot of faith in me. I now have faith in them. I'm UK all the way."
