Midwest Notebook: Offers, Commits and More

Camps are on-going, offers are being handed out and commitments are being made. We dish on the newest offers and break down some recent commitments right here, plus coverage from several Big Ten camps.
Western Michigan
held their camps this week, and several players of note earned their first scholarship offers. Muskegon Heights (Mich.) wide receiver
Willie Snead
was offered by the Broncos. This is his first offer. He played wideout as a sophomore for Holland Christian, but quarterbacked Heights deep into the playoffs last year. There probably are some places he could play quarterback, but he worked out as a receiver at WMU and showed good athleticism and hands. The Broncos also offered a pair of rising junior defensive linemen from Warren Central (Ind.),
Sheldon Day
and
Josh Posley
. Day is a 6'2, 255-lb defensive tackle, and Posley is a 6'1, 238-lb defensive end with 4.7 speed. The Warriors' coaching staff is also confident that fellow class of 2012 teammate
Deionte Buckley
will have an offer from the Broncos soon.
Hinsdale Central (Ill.) has been on fire this summer, particularly on the offensive line. Offensive tackle
Scott McDowell
was one of the best players I saw at Michigan State, and has recently added offers from Cincinnati and Illinois among others. Center
Jack Allen
, another player I am high on, was offered by Iowa and that appears to be a race between the Hawkeyes and Michigan State.
Muskegon (Mich.) defensive end
Damon Knox
is a big 6'4, 266-lb kid who now has offers from Illinois, Missouri, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, and Eastern Michigan. Knox recently camped and did well at Michigan, and the Wolverines could be next to add to his list.
Commit Take -
Kiaro Holts
to UNC:
North Carolina landed a big one when 4-star OT Kiaro Holts (Warren Central, Ind.) committed to the Tar Heels. Holts is a 6'5, 266-lb kid with the athleticism to project to left tackle. He may need a year to add weight, but he has all the tools and comes from a great high school program. All that combined, adds up to a kid who I think can see the field relatively early in Chapel Hill.

Commit Take -
Paul Lang
to Michigan State:
The Spartans got their tight end in Paul Lang. I have admittedly not seen him on tape, but he was impressive when I saw him at camp. He ran good routes. He was not the fastest tight end there, but I thought he stood out because of the separation he created. He was not just a straight line guy. He also caught the ball very well. We are getting film on him soon, and should be able to see exactly what MSU is getting, but so far, I've liked what I have seen.
