Johnson Getting Serious Interest
Jaylen Johnson has the physical tools coaches covet. The rising junior stands 5'11" and weighs 180 pounds. He is one of the faster players in the area running a 4.4 flat forty and also jumps 35 inches. He can play wide receiver or defensive back and also is excellent on special teams. Johnson can change a game with a single play. Coaches are noticing and his recruiting is really picking up. "My focus has been on lifting and running to get ready for my season," said Johnson. "I want to help my team win the championship and I will be playing a lot on both sides of the ball so I have to be ready." Johnson did make some time to get to Virginia and came away impressed. "I went on a visit to Virginia and I really liked it. They have great academics. The sports hall was nice. The campus was real cool. I hope to keep hearing from them and get an offer. I want to get to some other camps but I don't know if I can yet." Besides Virginia, Johnson hears a lot from a few other schools as well. "I would say that Boston College, Maryland and Duke are recruiting me the hardest right now. Boston College is recruiting me as a wide receiver. Maryland is recruiting me as a defensive back and Duke recruits me as an athlete. I don't have a preference as far as position, I just want to play. I also like Florida and Oregon." Johnson talks about what he sees as the best parts of his game and what he still needs to work on this season. "I have good speed and can make up distance quickly. I can recover from a mistake. I have a lot of determination to succeed and I don't hang my head after a tough play. I just get back in there and focus on making the next play. I do want to get better with my footwork and technique. I also need to get stronger." Johnson reports a 3.1 GPA.
