Zach Hutcheson impressive at camps
Zach Hutcheson has good pocket presence, good feet, and a cannon for an arm. This gunslinger had a tremendous camp circuit over the last couple of months. "I feel like I had a really good performance at the Scout Showcase up in Rome (Ga.)," said Hutcheson. "The guy (Mike Wegzyn) from Tennessee beat me out for the top quarterback position. I believe I was a top five quarterback at the camp. I had as good of footwork as anyone at the showcase. I think I had the strongest arm of any quarterback there. "I was the top quarterback at the FBU camp in Nashville (Tenn.) a few weeks ago. I received an email from Mike Kruczek (former NFL quarterback) saying I was the top quarterback at that camp. In that email I received an invitation to go to Williamsburg, Va. to try out for the Top Gun camp. Some of the top quarterbacks in the nation will be at the camp in Williamsburg." Hutcheson has received a lot of positive feedback about his playing ability from several credible sources. "The Furman coaches said I was too big for them to recruit," he commented. "They told me I'm D1A material. And every instructor I talked to at the FBU camp, and the Elite Eleven Camp in Tuscaloosa, told me I can play at the highest level." The Southwest Metro-Atlanta standout wants Furman and every other program to know that he's wide open. "I would accept an offer from Furman," he said. "I don't wanna lose out on any opportunities with any schools. I like their program. "I really don't have any favorites right now. I'm open to every single school. I just wanna play football in college. That's the most important thing to me." Hutcheson will attend one last camp this summer, and he's hoping to make a big impression. "I'm going to a prospect camp down at FSU next week," he said. "I'd like to really impress the coaches at FSU. I wanna do well, show them my footwork, my arm strength, and earn an offer from them." Hutcheson has been working tirelessly on his game this off-season. "I've really been working a lot on my release," he said. "My release is much quicker than it was last year. My hips are a lot better than they were. I've learned a lot about reading defenses. "My new quarterbacks' coach is a great coach. He's taught me a lot of things this off-season. I feel like I'm twice the quarterback that I was last year. I'm expecting big things for this season." Most of Hutcheson's goals for the upcoming season are at the team level. "I want a state championship first and foremost," he said. "A state championship would be huge. I just want to help lead my team to go as far as we can go. "My personal goal is to receive some offers this season. I know I have what it takes to play at the next level." Vanderbilt has requested game video of Zach Hutcheson and received attention from several programs. He is a player to watch next fall. His upside is about as high as any quarterback prospect in the state of Georgia.
