McWilson Passes Look Test Easily
One of the more impressive looking high school players at the recent 7on7 at Akron University didn't even participate in the event, because 6-foot-3, 290-pound Shaquon McWilson was there cheering on his Campbell (OH) Memorial teammates. At first glance, McWilson looks like a college lineman, but in reality, he is just heading into his sophomore year. Even though he sat out his freshman season due to academic reasons, head coach Mickey Sikora is counting heavily on this youngster. "Trust me, he plays as good as he looks," Sikora stated. "I wish I had film to give you, but he didn't play last year. He would have started for us, and he will play both ways this season. He's on the right path, and he still has three years of high school left, so he will be a heavily recruited player." "He's a great wrestler, and he has great feet," he continued. "He probably projects as a big run-stopping defensive tackle in college, but I really like him at guard on offense. He can get out in front with his speed, and really crack people. He's going to be a great player for us, and he's a good kid." McWilson is excited to be able to play in 2010, and he plans on making the most of the opportunity. "I'm just glad to be on this team and I know I need to work twice as hard to get where I want to be," McWilson stated. "I want to do well, so I can go on and play football in college and get my degree. I like Pittsburgh and Ohio State, as well as a lot of teams right now. I think I'm in great shape and I'm ready to get the pads on." Scout.com will continue to track McWilson's progress over the next three years, to see how his career trends, but for now, he is certainly a prospect to watch.
