Bennett's a Beaver
Oregon State signed one prospect from Texas in 2008 and 2009 but the Beavers' staff struck out in the Lone Star State in 2010. They have made up for it, though, in 2011 as Oregon State has landed its third commitment from a Texas prospect as defensive end Brandon Bennett of Spring HS has given the Beavers his pledge. Oddly enough, the 6-foot-3, 250-pounder has never visited Oregon State or even ventured up to that part of the country. However, there seems to be little doubt in his mind concerning the commitment that he made. "I know I haven't been up there or anything but I really like the school from what I've read and the coaches are a bunch of cool guys," Bennett said. "Oregon State is a program on the rise and I'm excited to be a part of it." In addition to Oregon State, Bennett also holds overtures from Utah State, SE Louisiana, North Texas and UL-Monroe. He also received interest from Houston, Baylor, Missouri and Texas Tech. Oregon State running backs coach Reggie Davis recruited Bennett for the Beavers who is expected to stay at defensive end when he makes it to Corvallis. "They like my speed and the way I get after the quarterback," Bennett said. "I am a good run stopper too but rushing the passer is what I do best."
