The University of Tennessee picked up two commitments on Friday from in-state prospects Brendan Downs and Mack Crowder.
Downs, a 6-foot-6, 225 pound tight end is a very good get for the Volunteers. He was formerly committed to Duke, but his heart has always been with UT. He called UT his ‘dream school’ and it looks like a perfect fit for him. He is an athletic tight end who can catch and run. He needs to gain weight and become a better blocker, but he could be a steal for the Vols.
Crowder is one of the top OLs in Tennessee and he is a natural center. He knows the position, he is a very intelligent player, and he hopes to be the leader on the offensive line for Derek Dooley down the road.
Like Downs and Crowder, Jeff Greene decided he wanted to stay home for college on Friday as well. The 6-foot-6 wide receiver out of Fayetteville (GA) Starr’s Mill visited Georgia Tech and committed to them while there.
He is that tall outside receiver that the Yellow Jackets hope can stretch the field for them. He is very smart, he is a big target, and he has good hands.
Notre Dame had a great end of the week and one of their commitments came from Miami (FL) Columbus defensive end Anthony Rabasa. The 6-foot-3, 245 pound senior loved it in South Bend and he chose the Irish over 30 plus other schools.
Rabasa is a little undersized, but he is very strong at the point of attack, he has very active hands, and he is a good pass rusher off the edge. He has gotten bigger and stronger this off-season, so it will be interesting to see how he fits into the Notre Dame 3-4 defense.
New Orleans (LA) St. Augustine offensive lineman Jonah Austin has a number of BSC offers and he picked Houston on Friday. The 6-foot-5, 315 pound OL will be a guard on the next level. He is a big body that uses his size to his advantage. He will really need to improve his footwork at UH.
Alabama’s Boo Simon is headed to Tampa to play for Skip Holtz. Duke, East Carolina, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest among others offered the 6-foot-5, 285 pound offensive tackle out of Bay Minette (AL) Baldwin County, but he chose South Florida.
Two Scout300 prospects committed on Saturday to Notre Dame and Auburn.
Island Coast (FL) defensive end Aaron Lynch publicly committed to the Fighting Irish on Saturday while he was at Notre Dame. The top 20 prospect in Florida visited Florida State a week ago, but Notre Dame was too good to turn down. The 6-foot-6, 260 pound athlete could play outside linebacker or defensive end in their system. He has the frame to add enough good weight to end up at offensive tackle too. He is very versatile, he has great coordination, and this was a huge get for Brian Kelly.
C.J. Uzomah was a big get for Auburn as well. He is a 6-foot-6, 240 pound athlete out of Suwanee (GA) North Gwinnett that will go into Auburn as an athlete. He will be used at wide receiver, tight end, and maybe under center some in a ‘Wildcat’ package as well. He is very versatile athlete that is fluid, smooth, and talented. He chose AU over LSU.
Wisconsin may have gotten a steal in Makinton Dorleant. He is a lanky corner with long arms and good feet. He needs to work on his back peddle and coming out of his breaks, but he has a lot of raw ability. He will get stronger, he will improve his technique, and he could make a lot of plays for the Badgers before all is said and done. Dorleant is a 5-foot-11, 170 pound corner out of Naples (FL) Lely.
To cap off the weekend Jonathan Rose committed to Auburn live on TV in Birmingham Sunday evening. The 6-foot-1, 175 pound corner out of Leeds (AL) has been leaning towards Auburn for some time, so his commitment came as no surprise. He chose Gene Chizik’s program over a long list of schools including Alabama. He is a big corner that can cover and he has hands to make a lot of plays. Not many corners out there his size can cover or move the way he does, so this is a great pick up for the Tigers.
Who will be the next prospect out of the South to make a decision? Stay tuned to Scout to find out.
