"I just got back from (Florida's) Friday Night Lights," stated Cameron Clear when asked where he has been lately. "It was straight. I had a chance to play in the swamp. It was an unbelievable feeling playing in that stadium."
What did the Florida staff say to the Memphis (TN) resident?
"They are really interested in me, and they are trying to get me to play for their team."
The Gators have several qualities that stand out for the 6' 6", 260-pound two-way player out of Memphis Central.
"I like how family oriented their staff is and how all of their former players seem to still get along with their coaches. I just like their style of play and how they coach."
Cameron is projected by many to end up at offensive tackle on the next level, but he has tight end on his mind when he starts his freshman season.
"Basically I want to come into college playing tight end, but it would not be a problem to play on the offensive line down the road. I just want to start off playing tight end and gradually make the switch so it would not be that hard of an ajustment for me. I have played tight end and defensive end my whole career so I do not have any experience on the line yet."
Which college camps has Clear attended this summer?
"I have been to Alabama, Ole Miss, Duke, and Florida. I also went to the Tennessee camp, but I just stopped by. I didn't participate."
What stands out about Alabama?
"They are in my top five, and I like them a lot. I like their coaches and like their style of play. I got a good workout with their TE coach and got a chance to bond with him and see how they coach."
Who else is in Clear's Top 5?
"I have Ole Miss, Duke, Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida in my top five."
What are Ole Miss' positives?
"I just like the way they run their offense. Coach Nutt let me know how much he could use me in his offense. He likes to go vertical with his tight ends and do a lot of blocking which fits my style. They are also telling me that there is a possibility I could also play some (defensive) end on situational downs and that stood out to me as well."
What about Duke?
"They are totally about me playing tighte end or whatever I want to play. Duke also said I could play some end too. They are one of the top academic schools in the country too. That stands out a lot."
Tennessee has that home-state flavor.
"I grew up a Tennessee fan. I always wanted to go to Tennessee since I was a little kid. I talked to Caoch Dooley, and he said I could be a big part of his offense. They want to put me in on defense on situational downs as well."
Which schools need Cameron the most?
"It would probably be Ole Miss or Duke or Tennessee. I would have to go with one of those three."
Time-frame on a decision?
"I am going to wait it out and take my official visits before I decide."
