Stewart Looking For Opportunity
Last season Brian Stewart started at linebacker for his high school team. Although it got him on the field his desire to play quarterback still burns inside him. He is hoping that the coaching and praise he received at quarterback this summer will translate into an opportunity to lead his team's offense this season. As the season draws near Stewart is again slated to play linebacker as well as tight end. He will do what his coach asks but is hopeful to get a shot at the position he feels he can excel at on the next level. "I spent time this summer working on my game as quarterback," said Stewart. "I was at Penn State and got to work with Jay Paterno. I worked a lot on my technique and footwork. I went to Syracuse as well. I worked with QB Coach Nathaniel Hackett there. We worked on reading the defenses. I went to Top Gun after that." Stewart stands 6'3" and weighs 207 pounds. He has the size that few high school teams have at quarterback. He is also a left-hander. He has the bloodlines as his father played at Michigan from 1982-87. But he still needs to convince the coach. "I have worked really hard and feel I can play on the next level as a quarterback. I am always working to get better with my mechanics but I am very good at reading defenses already but I need the time on the field or none of it will matter. I will do whatever the coach asks but I would like to have a shot at QB especially with all the feedback I got from the camps this summer." Regardless of which position Stewart ends up this season he does know what he is looking for on the next level. "The academics are number one for me. As long as it is a good school for my education the rest of it follows. I am open to any opportunity." Stewart reports a 3.2 GPA.
