The University of Alabama received a surprise commitment Wednesday afternoon from Phillip Ely, Scout.com three-star quarterback from Tampa-Plant, Fla.
Phillip Ely
received a scholarship offer from Alabama a couple of weeks ago. He kept a low profile until his announcement.
Ely led Plant High School to the Florida 5A state title in 2009. He passed for more than 1,800 yards with 20 touchdowns and just three interceptions. He was named honorable mention All-State quarterback for 5A classification.
Ely has something in common with the Tide's quarterback Greg McElroy. Both signal callers have not lost a game as a starter since JV football.
Scout.com Southeast recruiting analyst Chad Simmons attended Ely's press conference. He will provide a full interview and photos later today.
Ely becomes commitment No. 17 for The University of Alabama.
