Quick Hitter…Good Counsel vs Friendship
The rain stayed away but some stellar play did come out and it marked a very good start to the season. There was a lot of talent on the field for both teams and we take a quick look at some of the player's performances: Wesley Brown, RB, Good Counsel (2012) – Brown looked fantastic breaking off several runs including one of about 65 yards. On that run he beat the angle of the defenders and stretched the distance between them all the way to the end zone. He also had several good runs inside showing off his power. He looks stronger and faster than last year which spells trouble for the rest of the teams on their schedule. Vincent Croce, DL, Good Counsel (2011) – Looked tremendous every play. Played with a ton of energy and played sideline to sideline. He is in great shape and was a beast while he was out there. He made several big hits. Malcolm Crockett, RB, Friendship Collegiate (2011) – Was lightning quick and was the best weapon his team had against a swarming Good Counsel defense. He got to the edge and had some long impressive runs. Showed great quickness and made some jaw-dropping cuts. He was awesome on defense as well with great closing speed and big hits. Blake Countess, DB/WR, Good Counsel (2011) – Blake was silky smooth as usual. He plays really fast and closes so well. On either side of the ball he is a tough match up for his opponent. He looks stronger and more physical than last year. Zachary Dancel, QB, Good Counsel (2011) – Zach has made himself into a playmaker. He made some great throws, especially on the run. He had a long, deep throw in the end zone on a full rollout that was right on the money. He led his receivers well while he was out there. The quarterbacks were not live so he couldn't show off his speed and athleticism as much as he will during the season. It is evident that the coaches have great confidence in him and he will do much more in the offense this year. Stefon Diggs, WR/ATH, Good Counsel (2012) – Diggs got off to a good start but suffered a shoulder injury very early on. It did not look serious. Larenzo Fisher, DB, Friendship Collegiate (2011) – Fast, smooth corner that had a solid night. Made some plays cutting off the run and also played well in coverage. Percee Goings, QB, Friendship Collegiate (2011) – Percee got things going for the offense right away. He throws a good ball and has good mobility. The quarterbacks were not live so he would have made some plays with his feet he couldn't in this scrimmage. Gets the ball out quickly and made some good reads. It was a solid start for the first scrimmage. Eddie Goldman, DL, Friendship Collegiate (2012) – He is a huge guy that can take on the double teams. He has a good first step. He was the focus of the offensive line on every play but did a good job of plugging up the inside. Looks solid and in very good shape. Jordan Kittrell, WR, Friendship Collegiate (2011) – Jordan didn't get too many chances on the night but ran very good routes and seems to enjoy getting after the defender. He looked great coming off the line and had some very good blocks. He goes hard even when he isn't getting the ball which is the sign of a good, team player. Devin Mayo, DB, Friendship Collegiate (2012) – He had great energy all night and backed it up with some big plays. He electrified the sideline a few times with some physical hits. He is tough and athletic and will couple with Goldman next year to anchor an already impressive defense. Stephen Snyder, OL, Good Counsel (2011) – He is such a strong powerful player. A great drive blocker that has good pad level and can play lower than the defender most times. He is a disciplined, aggressive, tough lineman that gets on you and doesn't let up. Cleared the way for a solid rushing attack. Ryan Watson, OL, Good Counsel (2012) – He had a great night against a strong defensive line. He is a very athletic player that can make all the blocks. They had several long runs right off his blocking. He has gained strength in the offseason and it showed.
