Keith Baxter is a talented cornerback prospect from Homestead High and Scout caught up with him to…
Scout's Take: Marshall CB commit
What to Like: The first thing that jumps out at you about Baxter is how fast and athletic he is. The way he's built, he'll be one of the first kids who jumps out when you arrive at the stadium. He has a solid corner build. Then you watch him run, change directions, and flip his hips and you begin to see a very, very talented corner with a lot of upside. He can run with any receiver at this level and has shown some decent ball skills over the last year and a half. He's played in Miami Dade County and plays with a lot of confidence, probably gained from having gone up against quality receivers on a weekly basis. What may concern you: He's one of the oldest kids in the entire class so keep that in mind. He's almost two full years older than a lot of other corner prospects in this year's class. He also sat out a lot this offseason with some injury issues that could be worth keeping an eye on. He also needs to bring up his grades and test scores in the classroom. Bottom Line: Baxter has a lot of tools you can't coach and he has a lot of the same tools as corners who are being recruited nationally. None of the Big 3 in Florida recruited him but a lot of BCS schools outside the state did. Marshall, if they can get him into school on time, will be getting a very talented (but raw) corner prospect with some nice upside, especially because of his speed and athleticism.
