Leading the way nationally in terms of signees each year is Florida, and it looks well along the way to topping 300 signees yet again. So picking a number one in the Florida Top 100 should be pretty tough, but Tim Jernigan is the clear favorite according to Southeast regional manager Chad Simmons.

"As always, Florida has speed, but it is not a skill position guy on top this season. Tim Jernigan is an explosive defensive tackle with a great motor and he is still on top. He will be a defensive tackle that can shoot the gaps and get into the backfield on the next level," said Simmons. "After Jernigan, there are many athletes that will be special on the next level. James Wilder, Sammy Watkins, Mike Bellamy, Teddy Bridgewater, and Nick O'Leary are all five-star prospects on Scout and deservedly so."

The state of Georgia continues to move up the list nationally with top signees and the Georgia Top 100 has another big name on top.

"Isaiah Crowell is the number two running back in the country and the number one player in the state of Georgia. He is a do-it-all back that can run, catch, and block out of the backfield. He is a special type of back that will make an impact as a freshman on the next level. Jay Rome follows Crowell and he is a prototypical tight end that I see playing on Sundays. He has the size, hands, toughness, and athleticism. Ray Drew and Damian Swann, follow those two and both could make their case for a fifth star this fall."

La'el Collins

The Louisiana Top 50 is very top heavy this year with three five stars sitting at the top down in the Bayou.

"This is about as good as it gets at the top in Louisiana. La'el Collins is the number one prospect on our board in this state, but Anthony Johnson and Jemaura Rasco are not far behind. Collins is an elite left tackle with great feet and the ability to get down field. Johnson is a very strong defensive tackle with great punch and Rasco is a defensive end with active hands and good acceleration off the edge."

The Alabama Top 50 is without a five star prospect right now, but there was a fierce battle for the top overall spot in the state.

"It was a tight race between Marvin Shinn and Erique Florence for the top spot in Alabama, but we talked about it and came out with Shinn at number one. He is a graceful wide receiver with long strides, soft hands, and the ability to go up and get the jump ball. Florence is a safety that can play inside the box and also cover space in the secondary. It is a solid year in Alabama and a number of guys like Jonathan Rose and Sammie Coates specifically could see their stock continue to rise with a strong senior season."

North Carolina currently has two five stars at the top, but that could change with Christian LeMay announcing last night that he will not play during his senior season. For now, the quarterback is number two in the North Carolina Top 40.

"Two five-stars are currently out of North Carolina and linebacker Stephone Anthony leads the way with Christian LeMay following him. Anthony plays both linebacker and running back for Anson County and he could play any of the three linebacker positions on the next level. He has good size, speed, and he knows how to locate the football in traffic. LeMay is a smooth quarterback with a live arm and he has a good feel for the game. Once he feet get set, he is able to deliver a strike with good zip on the ball more times than not."

A big name looms at the top of the South Carolina Top 30 as Jadeveon Clowney, the top prospect in the country, is the clear leader in the state.

Miller Safrit, Scout.com
"Clowney is a special defensive end that just knows how to disrupt plays throughout a game. He is best against the pass because of speed and length, but he is also solid against the run. He is still growing and getting bigger, so it is scary to think just how good he good be down the road. Charone Peake follows Clowney and he has a lot of upside at wide receiver. He is long, he has good speed, and he makes good adjustments on the ball."

The Tennessee Top 20 is a little more top heavy than normal with four four-star prospects including one that could continue to move up this fall.

"It is a solid year in Tennessee and the number one prospect in that state could emerge as a five-star before all is said and done. Antonio Richardson is an athletic lineman that plays both sides of the ball for Ensworth, but he is a true left tackle on the next level. He has very good feet, he has shown great balance, and he has the reach coaches love when talking about the person protecting the blindside of their quarterback. Jabriel Washington, Kyler Kerbyson, and Cameron Clear are all in the Scout300 as well. Clear is a prospect with as much upside as anyone in this state."

Most of the Arkansas Top 20 is already done with their recruiting as nine of the top ten prospects in the state are already committed, including seven planning to stay at home with the Razorbacks.

"Two are at the top in Arkansas and both are special players. Brey Cook moved into the top 50 this time and is now a five-star offensive tackle. He is one of the best in the country period and Kheil Frazier is not far behind. While Cook is a big force on the OL, Frazier has a strong arm and a good head on his shoulders at quarterback. He can pass and run and these two stand out most in the state of Arkansas."
