Scout was in Jacksonville on Thursday checking out many of the top prospects for the Class of 2011…
Florida RB has over a dozen offers
Mitchell Hester talked about some of the places he's been to this summer. "I went to the Duke camp, we did a lot of drills and different kind of stations. We were just trying to get the coaches to feel how the players work and how athletic we are. There were 7 on 7s and one on ones. I also went to South Carolina and it was more like a workout, a one day camp. I worked out with the running back coach and Coach Spurrier. I also went to North Carolina. Their camp was more like competition, 7 on 7s and one on ones. They taught us stuff like technique. They taught me footwork drills and a lot of stuff I didn't know but now I do. I went to Friday Night Lights at Florida as well and I think I did really well. My recruiting coach said I did really good and really caught their eyes and stuff, so that was a good thing. There were a lot of great athletes out there." Hester, 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, hasn't scheduled any official visits yet but he hopes to real soon. "I am gonna be looking at that the next week or two. I am gonna get with my family and figure out which ones I want to go to." Hester says six schools jump out to him right now and he talked about each of them. P> South Carolina - "I like Coach Spurrier, he is a good recruiting coach, a good guy. I like the running back coach he is a nice guy, he knows his football. I like the atmosphere; I have a friend who goes up there who says it is a nice place to play." North Carolina -- "They are rebuilding the stadium, the coaches are good coaches and coaching a lot of different running backs. Their running backs coach said I have what it takes, he definitely likes me, I like that and I like him." Arkansas -- "I like Coach Petrino and his pro style offense, I like what he is doing. I like what they are doing up there, I like the facilities, great facilities. I am planning to get up there. I talked to the head coach, he is coming to see me at one of my games." Illinois -- "I absolutely like Coach Zook. Coach Disch my recruiting coach, he is a great guy. They really like me; they are really after me a lot. I haven't been up there but I plan on getting up there soon hopefully." USF -- "I like it that it is close and the coaches are nice. I like Coach Skip's philosophy on football, he was telling us about what he is trying to do with the program and where he is gonna take it. I can see myself playing for that kind of offense." Virginia -- "I kinda just hopped on the recruiting of me. The coaches are coming down to see me. I have been reading the media guides they have been sending me and looking online for some things, I really like that place. It looks like that they really take their football seriously there." Hester, who denies a single favorite, claims close to 15 offers now. "FIU, NIU, Illinois, Arkansas, Maryland, Iowa State, Middle Tennessee, I don't know them all off hand but there are about 15 of them," he said when asked about offers. Hester, who claims a 3.1 GPA and a 24 ACT score, talked about what he's looking for in a school. "I want to make sure it is family oriented, make sure it has my major, they graduate a lot, a football atmosphere, playing for a school that I can see myself at for four year. Liking the atmosphere, the fans, the coaches, everything, that is what I look for in a school." The standout running back also talked about his goals for this season. "My goal is to get over 2,000 yards and 23 touchdowns. Taking my team as far as I can, as far as I can take my team, taking them the state championship is my goal. That's my goal is getting my team far. I told my coach I would put this team on my back this year."
