Sooners Illustrated brings you an interview with 2012 wide receiver prospect, Sterling Shepard out…
Focus 2012: Sterling Shepard
Sterling Shepard, a 5-foot-11, 170-pound athlete from Heritage Hall is definitely a player to watch. In Heritage Hall's scrimmage on Friday night he played receiver and corner and he broke up a couple of passes, caught a few passes, had an interception and had the hit of the night. "I have been waiting for a long time - I have been ready to go," Shepard said after the scrimmage. "Practices have been hot and I was just happy to get out here and hit somebody else." Shepard informed Scout.com that some big-time schools are already recruiting him and that he attended a camp at the University of Oklahoma. "I went to the OU camp over the summer and Texas Tech comes up to the school all of the time and I got a letter from them and Tulsa," Shepard reported. "It is still pretty open right now." Shepard says he is ‘open' to all suitors and all conference but did admit that he grew up watching and becoming a fan of the Big 12. "I am a Big 12 guy. I just like the way that they play. It is real fast paced, every conference is pretty fast paced, but I really like the Big 12." Shepard will get to play a couple of more seasons at both positions, but once he gets to college he will have to settle in on one side of the ball. The recruiting process may end up settling that for him, but for now he is leaning towards wanting to play offense and he has been looking up to one of the most technically sound receivers in the game. "I am really liking wide receiver, but a lot of people have been telling me I look good at corner, so I don't know which one I am going to yet," Shepard informed. "I look up to Steve Smith a lot. I like the way he plays and it similar to the way I play."
