Jones Looking SEC-Bound
Chris Jones, the 5-foot-10, 175-pound three-star cornerback from Minor High School in Adamsville, Ala., has narrowed his choices down to Alabama, Florida and Tennessee. All of his favorites have offered, but he hasn't scheduled any official visits yet. He says that Alabama and Florida are recruiting him the hardest. "They communicate with me the most," Jones said. "They send emails and lots of letters too. "Alabama is really trying to get me to stay in-state," he said about the Tide. "I love the defense they run and it would be amazing to play for a coach like Nick Saban. He gets the job done and knows how to win." Speaking of winning, Jones thinks the Tide are in good shape to win the national championship again. "I think they'll be on the verge of winning again," he said. "They've got a great team coming back." But Jones also has high hopes for their conference rival, Florida. "They're always a good team," he said about the Gators. "Even without Tebow (former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow) they'll still be good. They've got some good players back and young guys who are ready to step up. It won't be about one guy with them this year. They all need to step up." Another SEC school that Jones is considering is Tennessee. "I think that coach Derek Dooley is a great guy," he said. "He's a good coach and is a very good recruiter too. That's a team that will be on the rise for sure." Previously, Jones had listed Notre Dame amongst his favorites, but admits the Irish have not been recruiting him much recently. "I haven't heard from them," he said. "I'm not sure about Notre Dame right now." Jones, ranked as the No. 28 cornerback in the country by Scout.com, does not have a timeframe for making a decision. "It'll probably be during the middle of the season or towards the end of the season," he said. "It won't be soon." Adamsville Minor High School opens their 2010 season on Friday, Aug. 27 against Clay-Chalkville High School. "I want that ring," he said about his senior goals. "That's our first goal. We want to win a championship." He reports a 3.0 core GPA and 18 ACT.
