2012: Winston at Four Offers
Last year, Evan Winston stepped in as a sophomore and not only started, but made an impact for the Muskegon Heights Tigers, a team that made it all the way to the state semi-finals. This season, he again will start both ways, at guard and defensive end, and is looking to help his team get one step further. "Last year we were really good. By the grace of God we made it that far," he said. "This year we have that extra drive and extra hunger. Hopefully that will take us to the next level." The next level is something Winston should become familiar with. He has a number of colleges looking at him, and has already been verbally offered by Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan and Toledo. "Man, it's crazy," he said of the early offers. "It was only by grace of God that I am where I am. I'm working hard, staying humble and everything will be good." As for other schools recruiting him, Winston listed Marshall, Cincinnati, Florida International, Michigan, Michigan State, and Florida. He camped with the Gators and got good reviews. "They said absolutely going to be recruiting the heck out of me. They told me that I was really good and looking forward to our season." As for the in-state schools, the Spartans and Wolverines, Winston said: "They were going to be recruiting me too. They really like me too. They like how I came off the ball. My first step was pretty quick." Evan's older brother Steve plays at Central Michigan, but that is one in-state school he has not yet heard from. "They really haven't looked at me. I haven't seen Central Michigan much yet."
